Breathwork Update and Moving Forward

I'm keeping things short this week as I'm working on a story about one of the most important experiences of my life.

It was tragic and, in many ways, lead directly to changes in my life that culminated (years later) in publishing my blog. It will also explain why I've chosen to be so open about my life and the challenges I've faced.

It'll be a two-part story, with the first section posted next week and the rest delivered the week after.

After that, I'll move to bi-weekly posting instead of sending out a newsletter each week. All my writing has ended up longer than originally planned and I want to make sure to give myself the time necessary to write, and to ensure that I'm not overwhelming you.

I also want this content to be as practical and applicable as possible so I'll be experimenting with different formats moving forward. Up till now I've focused mostly on practical philosophy, and that will remain a key part of the writing, but I'll also give more actionable suggestions so you have a clearer plan of attack.

Breathwork Update

Two weeks ago I published the article, Fifteen Minutes to Heaven. If you haven't yet read it, it details my experiences with breathwork and the profoundly positive effects it's had on my life.

At the end of the article I committed to doing breathwork every morning for thirty days and I want to update you on my experience with it, as well as share feedback I've received from people who've tried it for the first time.

Even when we know something is good for us, it can still be a struggle to make it a part of our daily routine.

There are always interruptions and excuses for why we can't do it. Life happens and what was once a priority suddenly becomes neglected.

That was exactly my experience with breathwork over the past year.

I could viscerally feel all the good it was doing for me, but still rarely did it more than once or twice per week. Publishing a story about it was the perfect opportunity to commit myself to a month of daily practice.

If you desire to form a new habit, one of the best ways to keep yourself accountable is to tell others about it.

So me telling hundreds of people about my intention has forced me to be compliant, even when I didn't feel like it.

And setting it as a thirty day challenge, rather than leaving it open-ended, also helps greatly. Having a fixed end date gives me a target to aim toward, and I can then evaluate whether to keep it as part of my daily routine, or try something else.

-----

The first ten days I did the breathwork immediately upon waking, while I was still laying in bed, and it worked reasonably well. Then I had a couple nights of poor sleep and found myself dozing through parts of the exercise.

So now if I'm feeling especially groggy, I take a cold shower first which does wonders to clear the cobwebs. All things being equal, I still prefer to do breathwork later in the day but knocking it out first thing in the morning gives me an immediate win and helps set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

I suggest trying it at different times to see what works best for you.

I also heard back from two people who tried breathwork for the first time and both had amazing experiences.

One described feeling relief from a physical malady that has bothered him for more than fifteen years. And a belief that he may have finally found a path to the cure.

The other recounted an equally incredible experience, and a comedown after breathwork that lasts longer than a post-orgasm afterglow.

Your results may vary, but these types of experiences aren't unique. And who can't use more healing and orgasmic experiences in their life?

I also welcome any feedback on what you enjoy and would like to see more (or less) of going forward. So please hit reply and let me know your thoughts.

I wish you all a great day, and will be back next week with part one of "Radical Vulnerability".
